With an area of 575 km², Ibiza is the thirteen largest island in the Mediterranean. Covering an area of some 35 by 20 km, the island consists of forested mountains combined with lowlands.
Sa Talaiassa (Spanish: Sa Talaia) is the highest mountain, peaking at 475 meters. To the south are salt pans that were already used in ancient times.
The coastline consists largely of cliffs with sandy beaches in between. Around Ibiza are many rocky islands, the most famous of which is Es Vedrà in the southwest.
Ibiza, along with southern Formentera, forms the Pitiusen. Northeast of the island are Mallorca and Menorca.
Largest cities are Ibiza Town, Sant Antoni de Portmany and Santa Eulària des Riu.
Want to enjoy beautiful nature, delicious food and pearly white beaches? Then stop looking, because it doesn't get much better than Ibiza.
The Spanish island is a diamond in the rough when it comes to cycling, but you can discover it all with us!
Ibiza is not the biggest island of the Balearic Islands. Precisely because of the saturation on some of the other islands, we looked for an alternative that can offer everything:
nice biking, beautiful nature, culture and a high level of culinary excursions.
Then you quickly end up on Ibiza. In everything Ibiza breathes something: a relaxed atmosphere, friendly islanders and beautiful beaches in the south.
But what do we "cyclists" get out of that?
We arrive outside the high season, when it is already a lot quieter and there is less partying on the party island. Less crowds and therefore more space to enjoy cycling. If you come in the spring (February through April) or in the fall (October), the traffic is only one-third of the summer traffic. Nice, right?
RACE, GRAVEL OR MOUNTAIN BIKE?
Can you only mountain bike in Ibiza? No, definitely not! The island
is rugged in the north and there the trails are suitable for mountain bikers.
Many local rental companies are therefore equipped for this. E
chter: nowadays Ibiza also has gravel. Many
farm roads go through the farmlands, these are the caminos de grava. You
can do excellent gravel, although we recommend doing it more in the south; there the roads are more sloping and less rough.
On a road bike you can cross the whole island. Take a tour of Ibiza? That's about 145 kilometers with 2250 altimeters.
So it is certainly not flat, but the roads are good and the views
along the coast is great. Stopping now and then to take a picture is
a must-do when cycling in Ibiza.
The island has an abundance of good restaurants, beach bars and
special spots by the rocks on the coast. For example, visit Es Vedra, the magical rock in the sea. Or check out the beautiful north with its impressive coast, or visit
Ibiza town (Eivissa). All beautiful places to discover. Also bike
briefly through the historic city center Dalt Vila, it is even on the Unesco World Heritage List. This diversity is what makes the island so fascinating.
Most people are surprised by the simplicity of a small island near Ibiza, Formentera. Here you do not suffer from mass tourism, but can enjoy and relax undisturbed on
the beautiful, white beaches. Truly a paradise just a few hours by boat from Ibiza. Tip: do bring your bike, because the island is perfect for exploring by two-wheeler. You can ride on both gravel and asphalt. The island is only 83 square kilometers and therefore perfect to plan as a day trip.
After cycling, enjoy the lovely clear blue water. You
imagine yourself in another world.
